Felt painting
Volumetric soft compositions can decorate any room. Their unusual texture will fill the interior with a contrast of color and shape, help emphasize the individual style of the owner, become an effective transition between zones or simply a distinctive feature of the room, its dominant feature.
These cute felt cats are such a picture. To make such a composition you don’t need so many materials, namely:
• black felt;
• white elastic fabric (an ordinary men's or women's T-shirt will do);
• a piece of flat plywood;
• black threads for knitting (preferably with glitter);
• several small buttons on the leg (the color scheme is the same);
• waterproof glue for leather or shoes;
• Double-sided tape;
• scissors;
• needle and thread for sewing.
In this case, the rigid basis of the picture was a board for modeling plasticine. It is made of polystyrene, has a smooth surface, as well as identical and even sides (A4 format).
We cover it with white fabric, the sides of which are stitched with thread at the back.
They should be connected in pairs to avoid various types of deformations.
Only a thread can hold the fabric taut; no glue can withstand such a load.And thanks to proper processing, the front side of the product looks very neat, smooth and generally does not have any defects.
We leave the reverse side unchanged for now and proceed to creating silhouettes from felt. First, we draw the outlines of the kittens on paper, painting over all the necessary details with black.
Then we apply strips of tape on the reverse side and glue this pattern to our fleecy fabric.
Thanks to the tape, the fabric is tightly fixed and does not move, which makes the cutting process easy and quick.
There is no need to worry about the position of the kittens (after all, now all the details are displayed in a mirror), the tape is very easy to remove from the fleecy surface, after which they can be returned to their original position.
Now we lay out the image on the fabric. You should not try to achieve a perfect resemblance to the drawing; it is quite natural that the felt takes a slightly different shape, but this does not stop the painting from ceasing to be original.
If the position of the objects on the canvas suits you, we begin to glue the kittens. Apply glue in small portions (in the form of drops) and carefully glue it onto the fabric.
It is very important not to press the parts too much, otherwise the glue will flow out from all sides and ruin the picture. This is especially true for mustaches.
We apply the frame again with a needle, fixing the thread in the corners of the image.
We bring the end to the wrong side and tie a strong knot.
And now, when all the work on the wrong side is completed, we also bring it into proper form. To do this, simply cover all the threads with a sheet of white paper.
It is better to sew the loop to the fabric, because glue (or tape) will not hold it well and the picture may fall over time.
All that remains is to hide each joint on the frame from the front side with the selected buttons.They should be prepared (cut off the legs) and again glued with glue.
Now the picture is ready. Black and white contrast will suit any design and add its own flavor to every interior.
