We sew a toy eyeshadow palette from felt
There are probably no girls who, each at one time, would not be interested in cosmetics. Numerous jars, boxes, tubes and bottles from mother’s cosmetics bag sometimes fascinate little beauties even more than beautiful dresses, shoes or hair clips.
To satisfy this interest without resorting to real cosmetics, you can sew toy cosmetics, for example, from felt. Then the little daughter can safely try herself as a makeup artist, and the handicraft mother will be calm about the health and beauty of her princess, without fear of all kinds of allergies.
In order to sew, for example, an eyeshadow palette, you will need to stock up on the following tools and materials:
On a sheet of paper you should draw a template for the future palette - a square with a side of 10 cm and rounded corners.
Using this pattern you need to cut out 2 pieces from white felt. There is no need to add seam allowances.
From lilac felt you need to cut out 2 squares with a side of 11 cm.
From padding polyester you need to cut 2 squares with a side of 8 cm.
From scraps of multi-colored felt, you should cut out 9 squares - imitation of shadows - measuring 2*2 cm. It is better if these are several shades of the same color. Then the palette will look like the real thing.
The prepared “shadows” should be sewn onto the base of the palette made of white felt. For convenience, they can be pre-glued with a drop of transparent glue.
The margins for marking the location of shadows are as follows: on the sides - 1.5 cm, between squares - 0.5 cm.
On the second part of the white felt palette you need to sew a pocket for tassels, cut in the form of a rectangle with dimensions 8*3 cm.
Indents for marking the location of the pocket: below - 1.5 cm, on the sides - 1 cm.
Each part of the white felt palette must be placed on a piece of lilac felt. Between these layers, facing each other inside out, you need to insert padding polyester.
The entire “pie” must be fastened with an auxiliary stitch running along the edge of the white felt parts.
Excess lilac felt must be trimmed.
Each part of the palette should be edged with white bias tape.
To make this operation easier, you can pre-baste the binding. Then it must be stitched with a straight or zigzag stitch, and the marking lines must be removed.
If necessary, the edging can be carefully ironed.
There is no need to sew the ends of the binding together. It is enough to sew them butt to each other.
From white felt, cut out 2 rectangles measuring 7*2 cm.
These blanks will connect the sides of the palette.
Using glue, the rectangles should be glued to the sides of the palette, masking the joints of the bias tape. After the glue has set, machine stitching should be done along the edges of the rectangles.
On the front side of the palette you need to sew one part of the button.
The second part of the button should be sewn to the strap prepared and stitched on the back side.
The strap itself in the cut is a 6*1.5 cm rectangle, folded in half and stitched along the perimeter at a distance of 1 mm from the edge.
Then you need to prepare brushes for shadows.
You can first make a template out of paper. It can be absolutely anything in shape. The optimal size of the brush will be inscribed in a rectangle with dimensions of 5.5 * 2 cm.
According to the pattern, you need to cut out 3 tassel blanks of different colors.
From ordinary sewing threads you need to make “lint” for the tassels, gluing them to the wrong side of the workpieces.
Next, each piece must be glued inside out onto white felt.
Then the tassel should be sewn around the perimeter with a fine stitch.
Excess white felt must be cut off.
The front side of the palette can be decorated with felt flowers and circles if desired.
