Wooden icons
Badges on clothes appeared quite a long time ago. In primitive society, they were insignia made from stones, feathers, animal fangs and bones. Now many people can see these accessories on jackets, backpacks, baseball caps, bags, etc. as decorations. Icons can represent anything: logos of computer games, sports teams, cartoon and movie characters, various signs of attention. They make great gifts for any occasion or items to sell. Now I will show you how you can make absolutely any badge out of wood.
1. Draw your icon on the plywood. Draw clearly, otherwise when cutting out the outline will not be visible, and the icon will turn out crooked.
2. Take a hand jigsaw and start cutting out the icon along the contour. If you have holes in the badge, you can drill it with a drill or brace, and then insert a jigsaw into this hole and continue sawing.
3. After sawing, our icon may appear uneven. Let's fix this with files and needle files. Also, do not forget to chamfer - sand the corners of the badge. Now we sand the front part with fine sandpaper so that the surface is smooth and the paint adheres better.
4. On the back of the badge, you need to cut a hole with a stationery knife so that the pin will subsequently fit into this hole, and the fastening of the badge and pin will be stronger.
5. If desired, you can use a burning machine to make contours on the badge to make it look more voluminous.
6. Glue a pin to the back of the badge so that part of it fits into the hole made earlier.
7. When the glue has dried sufficiently, you can start painting the badge. We paint with gouache or acrylic paints. Don't forget to paint the edges; in some cases it is better to paint them black or the color of the entire icon.
8. And the final stage of making the badge is varnishing. This can be done either with regular transparent nail polish or with a special one. It is imperative that the varnish is waterproof, otherwise under some circumstances it may simply be washed off along with the paint.
