Submersible pump from a washing machine pump

Submersible pump from a washing machine pump

If you have an old or broken automatic washing machine, you can remove from it a good and very necessary thing - a water pump (pump). It is supposedly located at the very bottom under the drum and serves to pump liquid from the washing container into the sewer.
Such a pump operates directly from an alternating network of 220 V 50 Hz, its power is about 30 W.
I'll try to use it for irrigation and make a submersible pump out of it. Of course, the pressure of such a pump is not enough to pump water from the bottom of a well or a well, but from the bottom of a barrel or a larger above-ground container is quite enough.
The pump actually consists of two parts: an electromagnetic coil with a U-shaped core and a sealed assembly of the pump itself with an impeller and a motor core.

Making a submersible pump from a pump

So, it is necessary to disconnect the coil from the pump body itself; this is done by simply pulling it out.

You can also notice a thermal fuse on the coil, which trips when the temperature is exceeded, so as not to burn the winding.
We solder the network wire of the required length, always in double insulation.
A cut was made in the coil frame for this wire.

We make a frame for the reel from thick paper. Epoxy resin will be poured into it, which will seal the electrical parts.

We dilute and pour epoxy resin. This must be done on some kind of backing so that you can peel it off later.

But before you directly fill it, you need to glue all the cracks with hot glue. So that the resin does not spill or leak.

We wait 24 hours for everything to harden. Next, we assemble, first putting on the pump with the impeller.

And then the intake pipe.

Testing

To check, I took a bucket of water. He lowered the now submersible pump there and turned it on.

Of course, there is no special pressure, but as I said, a barrel is more than enough to water all the beds at any height without unnecessary hassle.
The pump performance is very good. The bucket was pumped out in a few seconds.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that this homemade product is shown purely for informational purposes. If you do something like this, do so only at your own peril and risk. The 220 V voltage is life-threatening and if something suddenly breaks, such an error can be fatal.

Security can be strengthened a little - powered through a transformer. Rewind the secondary winding to 220, well insulate from the primary and do not ground the ends.

It is better to connect such things through an RCD with a minimum leakage current (ideally 5mA)

I did this thing for a pool filter. A useless waste of energy, the winding overheats after 0.5 hours, trimming the blades did not help, power consumption decreased, overheating persisted.
