Nut to protect the disc from jamming in an angle grinder
While working with an angle grinder, the clamping nut that holds the disc can become so tight that it is simply impossible to unscrew it with a standard wrench. Tendrils can break out in it, it can bend, and there are also frequent cases of breakage of the gearbox lock button.
Nut with sliding washer
The easiest way to deal with jamming is to use a special nut with a movable washer pressed onto it. The use of such a clamp prevents it from sticking to the disk.
To combat blocking, I used to use a homemade spacer made of paper or rubber, placing it between the disc and the nut. This is a quite effective method, but over time the gaskets become compacted, so jamming still occurs. The disadvantage of this solution is that it increases the routine of rearranging disks. From time to time, the gasket sticks to it, so it takes some fiddling to remove and rearrange it.
A nut with a rotating washer, in my opinion, is the most effective solution for preventing sticking to the disc.It is cheap, and its use will allow you to save many fragile metal disks, which, when jammed, previously had to be broken in order to free the shaft.
The version of the nut that came into my hands has a raised washer with an extruded bottom. This allows, by reducing the contact area, to increase the pressure with which the disk is pressed.
Using such a clamp, you can prevent damage to the tool when releasing the disk by striking or sprouting the gearbox shaft on a turnkey basis. This is especially important if the angle grinder is under warranty, so mechanical damage to its surface is undesirable.
