5 drill attachments for radical expansion of functionality

A good drill provides, in addition to tool rotation, changing speed over a wide range and reverse. To expand its capabilities, there are various attachments that convert spindle rotation into reciprocating, vibration and impact movements of the tool.
All links to purchase are at the end of the article.
Drive converting a drill into an electric chisel

It has a cylindrical oblong plastic body with a mechanism inside that converts rotation into vibrations. A tool is attached to one end, and a drive is connected to the other.

First, insert the tip shank of a semicircular chisel into the hole in the clamping nut and secure it by rotating the nut with a wrench.

Then we connect a flexible shaft to the other end of the drive to transmit torque when attaching its second end to the drill chuck and turning it on.

This attachment selects both straight and shaped grooves in wood, wood materials, some types of plastic, etc.
Scissor attachment “Cricket”

Its punch-type cutting heads are fixed to the body in opposite directions. You can screw a hollow handle onto them. The axis of the hex drive is located perpendicular to the cutting heads.

To use the “Cricket”, we screw the handle onto one of the heads, and secure the hexagon of the drive in the drill chuck.

We insert the end of a sheet metal up to 1.6 mm thick into the gap between the punch and the matrix and turn on the drill. We move the tool in the direction of the cut, taking into account the speed of the drill and the thickness of the metal being cut.

In addition, this attachment easily drills large round holes in sheet metal and makes artistic and internal cuts.
Attachment for shaping bolt edges and deburring

It looks like a steel diverging cone with longitudinal slots. The inner sides of the racks have cutting edges. There is a shank for attaching to the drill chuck. The nozzle operates at low speed.
After shortening the shaft of a bolt or stud, burrs and a sharp edge are formed. It is difficult or impossible to screw a nut onto such a rod.

We will use a nozzle to cut the edges of the bolts and remove burrs. To do this, press the rotating attachment fixed in the drill chuck against the end of the bolt or stud and hold it in this position for some time.
Then we move the tool back and make sure that the burrs are removed and the edge is well formed. Now the nut screws freely and easily onto the bolt or stud.
Riveter attachment

It has a hexagonal shank for fastening in the drill chuck, a key with sockets for replaceable heads for rivets of different diameters, a plastic handle with a hexagonal seat and a ring with a locking screw for holding the handle on the nozzle body.
Before use, the nozzle should be prepared for use:
- install a replacement head to match the diameter of the rivets;
- place the handle on the nozzle body and secure it with a locking ring;
- Secure the shank of the nozzle in the drill chuck.

Using the nozzle is easy. We install rivets into the through holes in the sheets being fastened.
Insert the rivet rod into the hole in the head until it stops and turn on the drill. In this case, the nozzle mechanism grabs the rod and pulls it up. The head of the rod, rising, crushes the cylinder placed on it and forms the lower head of the rivet. The upper one is formed from part of the exhaust rod.

Visual inspection and control by applying mechanical forces shows the strength and rigidity of the rivet joint.

An attachment that turns a drill into a jigsaw and more

In it, the crank mechanism transforms rotational motion into reciprocating motion. It is enclosed in a housing made of plastic or aluminum. The saw blades are connected to the mechanism and secured with a lock. And through the shank, the nozzle is attached to the drill chuck.

The attachment kit also includes several saws, a stop and a plastic handle that is screwed into the body from the side.
We insert the saw into the slot in the front of the housing and tighten the fastening with a hex key.
We install the stop in place, screw in the handle from the right side, pressing the stop against the body.
We insert the shank of the nozzle into the chuck and tighten it with a wrench. Turn on the drill and make sure the saw works.
We clamp a wooden beam in a vice. We take the tool by the handle of the attachment with one hand, and the drill with the other.

Place the attachment stop on the side of the beam and turn on the drill. The saw blade begins to cut, and soon the timber is sawn through its entire cross-section.
You can also install a file in the attachment holder and process metal parts.
