A very simple grinding machine made from available materials
The disc grinding machine has the simplest design among the entire list of workshop equipment. In this regard, you can make such a tool yourself, and spend the saved money on something else. A homemade grinding machine is not inferior to a factory one, and its production will take only 1 day.
Basic materials:
- electric motor (alternatively, you can take it from a washing machine);
- plywood 15-20 mm;
- double sided tape;
- sandpaper;
- sewer pipe 50 mm;
- epoxy adhesive;
- wood glue;
- self-tapping screws
Manufacturing of the machine
The proposed design of the machine is adapted to the design of the engine housing from a pumping station or compressor. The main condition is the presence of a fastening plate in its front part.
A disk with a diameter of 230 mm is cut out of plywood for attaching sandpaper.
To fix it on the motor shaft, a faceplate is made. Its body is cut out of plywood. The faceplate is secured to the center of the circle with wood glue and self-tapping screws.
Using epoxy, a flange from the motor shaft is glued into it.
After the epoxy glue has hardened, the disk is installed on the motor shaft and ground on it with sandpaper to a perfect circle.
To make the support table stand, a sheet of plywood is applied to the front motor mount, traced around the upper circle and cut out.
On its sides there should be shoulders for fixing the U-shaped table top. To rigidly connect the stand and tabletop, you need to cut out plywood and attach 2 gussets to the bottom. Naturally, the angle of 90 degrees is maintained everywhere.
Double-sided tape is glued to the sanding disc. Sandpaper is glued on top and cut along the contour. The disk is put in place, the table is assembled and the machine is started. The abrasive wheel will rub down the tabletop, widening the gap if it was cut too narrow.
Next, you need to close the disk from below so that the sawdust does not fly away during operation. To do this, a rectangular insert is cut out. It is fixed between the gussets and the tabletop.
A casing is made to protect the eyes from sawdust. To do this, a strip of plastic or tin is cut out, which is simply screwed above the disk to the table support.
To make a “dust drain” for a vacuum cleaner, a sewer pipe spread out lengthwise is fixed at the bottom of the machine under the disk. When cutting it, you need to leave the socket intact. Dust will fall into the resulting trough and will be immediately sucked into the vacuum cleaner. If there is a gap when installing the pipe, it can be closed with a thin lath.
This is an easy-to-make grinding machine that does not generate dust during operation and allows you to save on consumables. For it, you can buy cheap paper and simply glue it with double-sided tape. If you use a powerful motor for its manufacture, the machine does not slow down during grinding, like many factory equipment.
