How to cut a bottle lengthwise and make original dishes
If you have beautiful bottles with an impressive design, then do not rush to throw them away. There is a way to turn them into interior decoration or even use them as original tableware.
I'll tell you and show you how I cut the bottle lengthwise.
Take care of your own safety! Wear safety glasses or a mask. At the end of the cutting process, you need to wash your hands and face well, and clean and wash your clothes well.
Some bottles have a seam on the side.
It is very convenient to make a cut along the seam. To make this seam more visible, I glued red electrical tape along it.
The diamond blade and the cutting area must be cooled with cold water. Since I don't have a workshop, I had to do it in the kitchen. I turned on a thin stream of cold water, placed the bottle under it and began to cut. If you have a suction cup vise, you can place it on the bottom of the sink and secure the bottle in it.
There will be a lot of splashes! Take care of your kitchen and cover it with some kind of film.
I cut gradually and did not concentrate on one place. I made a cut along the electrical tape.
The bottom and neck are the most difficult places to cut. In these places the glass thickens significantly.
Be patient and don't rush. When working with an engraver, do not press hard on the disk and do not turn on too high a speed, otherwise the bottle will chip. Periodically turn off the engraver and let it cool down a bit.
It took me about 30 minutes to make 1 bottle.
The edges of the bottle are quite sharp and can easily cut you, so be careful!
Next, I took a sander, installed fine-grained sandpaper and moistened the sandpaper with water. It took a couple of minutes to polish.
The edges of the bottle have become smoother and safer.
The bottle is convenient to store. We fold the 2 halves, screw on the cap and it looks like a regular bottle. It was funny to see the faces of my friends when I split the bottle in half))
Personally, I use this bottle for snacks with foam or as a candle holder.
You can make various creative things from glass bottles to complement the interior of your home. Of course, the work process is painstaking and time-consuming, but the result is worth it. You will receive original and unusual products.
