Homemade quartz watch mechanism: police strobe light
Many people probably have unwanted and used watches with a quartz movement powered by a AA battery lying around at home. We propose to assemble from them a useful homemade lighting effects that will resemble a police strobe light.
Will need
- 2 super bright LED red and blue glow - .
- 18650 series battery - .
- Battery box.
- Wires for connection.
Making a police flasher from a clock mechanism
So, we remove the mechanism from the watch and open the top cover by bending the latches.
You need to find a small board to which an electromagnet is soldered. We take out this board. The electromagnet wires can be torn off or unsoldered.
Essentially this is a quartz generator of alternating rectangular pulses.
We solder power to the board from the box, where the 3.7 V battery will be installed.
Don’t worry, the generator works great not only at 1.5 V, but can also function adequately at higher voltages without any increase in current consumption. Tested many times.
To the output of the coil, that is, instead of it, we solder two LED.
They are switched on counter-parallel, that is: plus to minus of the other and vice versa. Now you can apply power by installing the battery in the box and watch the strobe work.
LEDs very bright, so the effect is amazing.
That's the whole structure.
