How to make a 5V power bank from a laptop battery in 1 minute
Let’s imagine a situation where you suddenly decided to go on a hike for a long time. A little later we realized that somehow in nature you need to charge your phone or tablet, but you’ve never had a power bank. What to do? If you have a laptop lying around, you can turn it into a powerful power bank in just 1-2 minutes and take it with you anywhere. Moreover, the battery itself will not be damaged in any way and upon return from the hike it can again be installed in the laptop.
Will need
- Battery from any laptop (netbook will work too).
- USB car adapter to cigarette lighter.
- Two small wires.
- A piece of tape or Velcro.
We turn a laptop battery into a power bank
The adapter itself, or in other words, a converter, is capable of converting a voltage of 9-24 V into a stable 5 V to power devices connected to its USB output.
It costs 1-2 dollars, no more. You probably have one or something similar lying around in your car.
We take two wires, preferably of different colors and about 10-15 cm long.On one side we clean the negative side by 2 cm, and the positive side by 0.5 cm.
Connect to the converter. We wrap the negative one around the side bracket and tie it, and simply stick the positive one into the gap between the body and the movable contact.
We fix the converter to the battery case with tape or a soft tie with Velcro.
We stick the wires into the slots where the battery contacts exit.
All! Power bank is ready for work!
Connect your phone or tablet.
In this case, the battery indicates a capacity of 4400 mAh with an output voltage of 11.1 V, but since the converter produces 5 V and has an efficiency of about 98 percent, the capacity of our power bank more than doubles and is somewhere around 10,000 mAh
