Paintings made from straw
A natural material that has absorbed the energy of the sun and the power of the earth - ordinary straw - has a variety of golden tones and shades.
Oat, barley, and wheat straw are suitable for making such products from straw. It must be carefully prepared for this: cut each stem into pieces near the rings, peel off the upper covering leaves, cut the resulting golden tubes lengthwise again, soak in water for several hours and then smooth with an iron.
Manufacturing technique
The products are especially beautiful if the base is colored velvet paper or fabric. The basis can be anything at all. The basis of my samples is fabric.
We transfer the chosen drawing onto tracing paper and cut out the parts piece by piece. (If there are a lot of parts and they are different, they need to be numbered.) The main thing is to choose in advance the correct direction for the placement of the straw; the brilliance of the design and the expressiveness of the finished product depend on this.
Selected according to the tone, the straw is carefully glued to the details of the design with ordinary PVA glue. It is important to accurately glue the straws to each other and follow the direction. The glued parts are dried, ironed and carefully, very carefully cut out.
If all the parts are translated correctly and cut exactly along the lines, it will be easy to put together a complete drawing. First, lay out all the details on the background, carefully check the correct location of all the lines, and then the main thing - gluing.
Step by step: the partially glued area is pressed down with a weight (for a short time).
Then we glue the details of the drawing again and press it down again...
It is imperative to place a weight on the finished work until the glue dries completely. Made in this way, the resulting product looks very beautiful in a frame under glass, maintaining its shine and brightness longer in such conditions.
With straws you can create various images - still lifes, portraits, landscapes. Boxes, caskets, and frames are decorated with straw mosaics.
Possessing the magical power of beauty, the golden color of the straw attracts attention, delighting with sparkling sunlight.
