How to make a simple water pump from a motor and a syringe
A small pump may be needed when building a small decorative fountain, for pumping water when cleaning a nano aquarium, and for other similar purposes. It’s difficult to find it in a regular store, and when ordering online you have to pay more for delivery than the pump itself costs. If you have a small electric motor, you can do it yourself in just 20 minutes.
Materials:
- electric motor;
- power unit;
- syringe 10 cc;
- Super glue.
Pump manufacturing process
The rubber seal must be removed from the syringe rod. Then you need to cut off the front wall of the piston, and step back 5 mm upward to cut off the rod.
Using a sharp knife, you need to cut out the center of the cross formed when the wings of the rod intersect. Literally a third of the plastic is cut off.
Then the piston is drilled in the center with a thin drill, equal in diameter to the motor shaft.
The same drill is used to drill through the previously cut front wall of the piston and the removed rubber seal. After this, the resulting plastic washer is inserted into the elastic band.
The part, made of a piston and a seal, is installed on the motor shaft with the plastic facing forward. After them, the blades from the rod are put on.The latter are fixed with superglue on the shaft.
The front part with the spout needs to be cut off from the syringe barrel. The cut is made at the 4 cu. mark.
In the future, after trying it on, it may need to be shortened, but it is better to cut it initially with a margin for maneuver. Then a hole with a diameter of 3-4 m is drilled in the side of the cylinder, slightly above the spout.
The engine with blades and seal is inserted into the prepared cylinder. It must be positioned so that the blades are opposite the side hole. If they do not reach, then the cylinder needs to be shortened.
A tube is glued to the side hole. It can be made from a protective cap from a syringe needle. The cap is cut at an angle so that after gluing, the pump shape resembles a snail.
Next you need to power the motor. You can use batteries or choose a suitable power supply for it.
For pumping, only the plastic part of the pump from the syringe is immersed in water. The engine must be located on the surface. In the future, you can find a waterproof housing for the motor and fill it with silicone.
A deodorant cap can be used as such a case. If the pump will be used to pump water through a tube, then it is better to fix it on a floating base so that only the snail is in the water.
