How to make a simple folding fishing boat
When going fishing in small swamps and swimming into reed thickets on ordinary inflatable boats, there is always a high probability of sailing back without it. The cylinders of inflatable boats are punctured and cut at the same time, so swimming on them into the bush is prohibited. To safely fish in the thickest reeds, you can make a folding boat from shipping tape.
The design of the folding boat includes wooden sides made of 20x300 mm boards.
To make them, you need to plan the corners of 2 boards, one edge at a time, to round them. Make the rounding the same on all sides, since there will be no bow and stern in the boat. Thanks to this, she will be able to swim in any direction without having to turn around. Shipping tape is nailed to the bottom of the sides. 2 plywood spacers are inserted between the sides, and the seat is placed on top. The design is very simple to manufacture; moreover, when removing the spacers, it allows the sides to be folded along the tape, reducing the size of the boat several times.
The sides of the boat are made to any length, based on your own preferences and the length of the existing shipping tape.
To protect them from rotting, it is advisable to soak them in hot drying oil. Next, you need to unravel the tape, since initially it is too thick, and the boat with it will not bend.
To unravel the tape, you need to use a sharp knife to cut it from the end along one of the layers. It is divided across its entire width to a depth of approximately 5 cm. Then, perforations are made in it at small intervals. Next, the loose edges need to be crimped. To do this, 2 steel strips with the same holes are installed on each of them, and the strip is compressed between them with bolts. After this, having hooked one edge to a pole or tree, you need to pull the second one with a tractor or car. As a result of tension, the tape will unravel.
The resulting thin strip is nailed to the planed edges of the sides. The side with the open cord should be inside the boat. It should be nailed very often with short nails. Due to the elasticity of the tape, the connection will be tight and will not leak.
After attaching the tape, spacers must be installed. To do this, limiters are made from slats on the sides. 2 plywood spacers are enough. Then the seat is prepared and the oarlocks and oars are installed. Such a boat, if stored in a dry place, will last for decades without repair and will never fail on the water.
