How to make a door to a bathhouse of an interesting design from old boards

To reduce the cost of construction, doors for a utility room or bathhouse can be made with your own hands. To save even more, this can be made from old previously used boards.

Materials:

planed boards of different thicknesses;
loops – 2 pcs.;
plexiglass;
self-tapping screws;
M8 bolts with nuts – 2 pcs.;
nails.

Door manufacturing process

From the available lumber, it is necessary to select several identical thick long boards to make a door frame. They are sawed and twisted with self-tapping screws at the corners.

In order for the door in the frame to rest against something, a quarter must be selected in it. But to make it, you need a router or a good circular saw. The easiest way is to simply pick up a narrow inch board and nail it to the inside of the box.

Next, boards of the same cross-section are prepared to make the door leaf. They are cut so that when placed in the box there is a gap of 4-6 mm on each side.

To give the door new colors, instead of jibs or crossbars, you can fasten the boards together with wedge-shaped elements.They are fixed along the upper and lower ends of the assembled door leaf. If you want to repeat this idea, you will need to cut the canvas boards a little more to compensate for the thickness of the two wedges.

You can further diversify the design by attaching a board to the base of the wedges so that it is located at a right angle to the canvas. A cut is made in the center, which will serve as a handle. You can leave a gap in the canvas for further glazing with plexiglass.

The resulting structure does not have sufficient rigidity, so you need to secure another wedge in the center of the canvas. A jib is also placed on the opposite side.
Next, the hinges are screwed on.

After this, you need to make a two-way locking mechanism. It consists of three pieces of timber. A hole is drilled in the central short one with a 25 mm feather drill, and an axis (a segment of the shovel handle) is inserted into it. The remaining identical bars are connected to the central one by hinges, which are used as bolts.

After this, the locking mechanism is installed on the door. A 25 mm hole is drilled in the center of the canvas. The axle is inserted into it. Then you need to attach the long bars of the mechanism, making guide brackets for them from metal strips. Thus, when turning the central bar, the others will move apart or retract. You need to make holes for them in the door frame. Also, another block is installed on the axis on the back side of the door to allow entry from the street.

The final stage of assembly is the installation of plexiglass on a narrow strip in the canvas. The easiest way is to press it with glazing beads. The result is a very colorful door with an unusual deadbolt.
