Welding generator from a lawn mower engine
Welding work has to be carried out not only in the workshop, but also far beyond the reach of the extension cord from the outlet. In order not to depend on the electrical network, it is worth making a welding generator. You can cook with it either in the field or in the forest.
Basic materials:
- engine from a brush cutter;
- electric power steering motor;
- welding wires;
- electrode holder;
- mounting bracket;
- bicycle brake handle;
- sheet metal.
Welding generator manufacturing process
After coupling, instead of a rod with a shaft, a motor shaft from the electric power steering is installed on the motor of the brush cutter. This will require studs and clamps. The shafts can be connected to each other using an adapter coupling.
A mounting bracket is attached to the engine, to which the wires from the electricity-generating electric power steering motor, as well as welding cables, are screwed.
To prevent the motor of the brush cutter from tipping over, you need to make a sole for it from sheet metal. The throttle cable from the brush cutter is led out to the electrode holder and connected to the brake lever from the bicycle screwed onto it.
To perform welding, you need to attach a mass to the part and install an electrode thinner than 2 mm.
After this, the engine starts.Next, you need to squeeze the throttle to ensure maximum speed so that the generator produces the required current. Then welding is done. Thanks to the standard clutch, when the electrode gets stuck and the generator brakes under load, you can disconnect the drive and the engine will not stall. This welding with thin electrodes allows you to qualitatively weld thin-walled metal, rods, fittings, and also carry out serious repair work when a more powerful welding machine is not available.
