How to make a device for winding springs from nuts and bolts
Various homemade products may require springs of non-standard sizes and lengths that cannot be purchased. In this case, you can make them yourself. To do this, you will need a special homemade device made of bolts and nuts.
Materials:
- a long bolt equal to the inner diameter of the required spring;
- nuts for it - 3 pcs.;
- M3 screw;
- the bolt is 2-3 times thinner than the main one;
- nuts for a thin bolt – 2 pcs.
Device manufacturing process
One device can only bend springs of a fixed diameter. Therefore, if the need for different springs arises often, then it is better to make several devices of all required sizes. First, you need to weld a screw to the nut under the main bolt for winding.
The gap between its head and its edge must be equal to the width of the wire used to bend the spring.
Next, a groove is made on the edge of the main bolt or bolts, if several fixtures are being made. This is necessary to drill the edge across. For this purpose, the drill is taken a little thicker than the wire that will be used to wind the spring.
A nut is screwed onto the main bolt close to the head. Then she and he are drilled through.
A thin bolt is inserted into this hole, and 2 nuts are screwed onto its edge.
Next, the nut and screw are welded to the remaining large nut. It is important not to flood the threads with welding. The resulting part is screwed onto the bolt.
The device is clamped in a vice by the side nut.
The wire is inserted into the hole in the bolt.
Then you need to start twisting it. The wire will rest against the screw and begin to lie evenly on the threads.
After coiling, the edge of the spring is hooked and pulled out of the bolt, and it is twisted.
You will need to make hooks at its ends and heat treat it to increase elasticity.
