How to make a tool for quickly removing snow from the roof, without climbing onto the roof

In winter, so much snow accumulates on the roof that the rafters literally crack under it. To prevent it from damaging the roof, it must be removed periodically. It is not safe to climb onto the roof, so it is better to make a simple tool that can be used to remove snow while standing on the ground.

Materials:

  • Aluminum strip;
  • M8 threaded rod;
  • tarpaulin or thick plastic film;
  • plastic and aluminum pipes 20, 25 mm;
  • wheels – 2 pcs.
  • bolts, nuts.

Tool making process

You need to bend a U-shaped frame from an aluminum strip.

The height of its sides should be slightly greater than the usual thickness of the layer of snow that accumulates on the roof. The width of the bracket is at your own discretion, but preferably at least 50-60 cm.

The edges of the workpiece are drilled for a threaded rod. It is cut with a margin so that the length exceeds the width of the strip blank. You need to thread the pin into the bracket and put wheels on its edges.

They are secured with nuts so that they can be rotated.

A long strip of tarpaulin or plastic film is secured to the pin. Its length should be slightly longer than the roof slope that will be cleaned.

Then a pipe handle is installed on the workpiece. It can be made collapsible by connecting several tubes of different diameters. You can attach the tube to the strip with a pair of bolts. The first tube must be plastic, as it is flexible and will allow the tool to adjust to the desired angle.

Then a rigid metal pipe is connected to it.

To use the tool, you need to go up to the roof slope and place it on the edge of the roof. Then we roll the device with its wheels to the ridge of the roof. As a result, the snow will slide down the tarp strip. All you have to do is remove it with a shovel if it gets in the way.

    The principle is correct, but the design is too large.
    The optimal size is 50 x 20 cm, the maximum is 60 x 25, otherwise it is very difficult to move, especially with a long reach, and in the end it will quickly break.
    Frankly weak attachment of the handle to the frame. From the tube you need to switch to a solid rod, make a slot in this rod for the strip, insert it, drill it all and tighten it with two M6 or even M8 bolts with self-locking nuts.
    Well, two nuts still need to be added - on each side between the wheel and the frame. Those. We put the pin on, firmly attach it to the frame, and only then put on the wheels and self-locking nuts on top of them.
    The film must be glued to double-sided tape between the main sheet and the “turn” - then the tape will never get caught or come off, respectively. The edges can also be secured with reinforced tape and a paper stapler.
