10 advanced ideas for the DIYer and do-it-yourselfer
We often have to do work for which we do not have a special tool or machine. In this case, you have to come up with various homemade products in order to do without the necessary equipment. We offer 10 original tips that allow you to overcome difficulties in unusual ways.
1. Cutting tiles with a stationery knife
It is quite possible to cut tiles with an ordinary stationery knife. You must first leave a scratch on it where the cut was made with the tip of the blade. After this, we place a nail exactly under the line and press on the edges of the tile. In general, we work both with glass and a glass cutter. As a result, the tile will break due to a scratch.
2. Knife for trimming the bottom edge of wallpaper
If you need to glue in floor skirting boards after wallpapering, then the latter should definitely be trimmed to expose the wall. In this case, you will need a special knife. To make it, we take a piece of timber, the length of which is equal to the height of the plinth. We screw the blade of the mounting knife to the end of the workpiece with self-tapping screws.
Now, resting the lower end of the device on the floor, we guide it with the blade along the wall. As a result, we get an even cut.All that remains is to tear off the wallpaper underneath, and then you can glue the baseboard.
3. Thermal bag from a canister
An original thermal bag can be made from a large plastic canister. To do this, its upper part must be cut as in the photo, thereby obtaining opening doors.
An insert for the bottom of the canister is cut out of foil polystyrene foam and placed inside. It should fit tightly.
To insulate the side walls, a single long piece of polystyrene foam is cut out, the width of which is equal to the height of the canister from the bottom to the doors. Then you need to bend it into the shape of a canister. To do this, the polystyrene foam is cut along the bends to the opposite layer of foil. The resulting insert is then placed in the bag. Its edges are connected by surprise, due to which it does not fall out.
Now all that remains is to cut out the lid, which will fit into the canister between the side insulation. After this, the bag is ready. Due to the preserved handle, it is convenient to carry, and the thermal box does not have any cracks that allow heat or cold to pass through.
4. How to saw a quarter with a hacksaw
To cut a quarter of the correct shape with a hacksaw, you can glue the strip to the side of the canvas with double-sided tape. It will serve as a depth limiter. You won’t be able to cut out too much with it, so the quarter will come out the same in quality as one made with a precision power tool.
5. Simple T-shaped profile fastening for drywall
To connect a drywall profile at a right angle, you need to make two cuts at 45° on the end of the adjacent workpiece. After this, the side walls of the profile are bent outward.
Now you can join the profile and secure it with three screws or rivets. When using metal scissors, everything is done in a minute, so you can completely dispense with special connectors.
6. Fixing the connecting ring
To attach the ring for connecting the carabiner, you will need two washers and two self-tapping screws. We apply a groover or a washer to the attachment point, then the ring itself, and a second washer on top.
Now you need to tighten 2 screws on the sides of the ring. After this, the correct washer bends. This way the ring is completely blocked. At the same time, it maintains mobility.
7. Miter box made of lath
To make a chair, you will need two identical pieces of slats, 20-30 cm long. They are pulled together from the edges with self-tapping screws. Before this, two washers are placed between them.
This miter box is fixed with a clamp at the desired angle on the workpiece. After this, we saw with a hacksaw inserted into the gap created by the washers. Thus, the tool moves strictly in one direction, and the cut is perfect.
8. Quick marking of drywall
Mark the drywall cutting line with a short ruler for a long time. Therefore, it is better to use a regular beating cord. Cutting along the color line from it is much faster.
9. Furniture nut made of elongated
To embed a regular elongated nut into a piece of wood, you must first screw it onto a pin and tighten it. This device is clamped in the drill chuck, and then, after starting the tool, it is ground to a cone on a sharpening machine.
Now the ground down extended nut can be placed in the hole in the wooden piece. Due to its shape, it will fit in and fit tightly.
10. Metal brush for drill
