How to make a potato digger on a walk-behind tractor
The proposed potato digger, unlike the original version, is made with an adjustable angle of attack of the ploughshare and short rods. As a result, it can work on any soil and provide less resistance. Therefore, the walk-behind tractor can operate without lugs and weights. Any adult with metal handling skills can make a new version of a potato digger.
Will need
Materials:
- cultivator paw 18 by 18 cm and height 40 cm;
- 2 plates 25 cm long, 2 and 5 cm wide at the ends, 0.8 cm thick;
- turnbuckle M16 with two eyes;
- welded field board made of two square rods 2×2 cm;
- 2 thick washers;
- 6 straight and 2 curved round rods with a diameter of 1.2 cm and a length of 15 cm;
- plate 12×5×1 cm;
- 2 pins of different lengths with holes and 2 cotter pins;
- 2 M12 bolts with nuts.
Tools: grinder, welding machine, drilling machine, wrenches, hammer, etc.
The process of manufacturing a reliable potato digger based on a cultivator paw
At the end of the cultivator paw stand, drill a hole with a diameter of 1.2 cm and, using a bolt and nut, attach 2 plates with holes to the sides of the stand.Between the narrow edges of the plates we place one of the eyes of the M16 lanyard and also secure it with a bolt and nut.
To the bottom of the rack we press the beveled edge of a welded field board made of two square rods 2x2 cm and weld them to each other. We weld two thick washers turned at a right angle to the edges of the cutout from the other end of the field board. We install the lower eye of the lanyard between the washers and secure it with a bolt and nut.
We weld 4 round rods horizontally on each side of the cultivator paw stand. Moreover, the curved rods welded first, and they make up the bottom row. The vertical distance between the rods is 4 cm.
The distance between the bases of the upper rods to the ground is 12 cm, and from the ends – 17 cm. The transverse distance between the ends of the upper rods is 23 cm. The height of the paw itself is 50 cm.
Between horizontal plates from their wide edges weld vertically a plate 12x5x1 cm with a hole in the center. With its help, the potato digger will be connected to the coupling device of a walk-behind tractor or motor-cultivator.
This design of the potato digger, with an adjustable angle of attack of the paw depending on the properties of the soil and short rods designed not for sifting the earth, but for pushing it, provides low resistance and, therefore, there is no need to install lugs or weights on the walk-behind tractor.
