How to start a car alone if the battery is dead

How to start a car far from civilization, while, for example, fishing or hunting, if the battery is discharged due to the car radio, side lights, etc. being left on, or when the electric starter fails?

The situation at first glance seems hopeless, but you shouldn’t despair too much and think about how to get out of such a delicate situation and then, perhaps, the drama of the situation may subside somewhat. How can you turn the crankshaft? Starter! But our battery is low!

A running engine rotates the drive wheels through a clutch, gearbox, cardan shaft or axle shaft. That is, if the engine is not running, then it can be influenced in the opposite direction - to rotate the drive wheels. Here it is - the way out!

Life hack: starting a car with a dead battery

The first thing we need to do is immobilize the car. Under one of the rear wheels, if the front wheels are driving, we place bricks or stones of suitable shape and size on both sides. We also make sure to set the car to the handbrake.

Then we take the jack out of the trunk and lift one of the front wheels, it doesn’t matter left or right. We unscrew the wheel so that it is convenient to spin it. If we lifted the left wheel, then it should be turned all the way to the right and vice versa.

We wind a rope, for example a clothesline several meters long, onto the wheel tread against the direction of travel, tie a small stick to its end, and place it transversely on the surface of the tread. We tie a lever to the second end of the rope - a wooden rod, which will be a kind of handle.

Engage second gear and turn the ignition key. We choose a comfortable position behind the wheel and with both hands, with a sharp jerk, pull the rope towards ourselves. The wheel, rotating, rotates the axle shaft, which drives the corresponding gears in the gearbox, the rotation from which is transmitted through the clutch to the engine crankshaft.

At the same time, the engine starts (the sound of its operation can be heard from under the hood), and the wheel rotates from the engine. We turn off second gear, lower the jack, put our belongings in the trunk and we can set off in the direction of home.
