How to repair a broken scissor handle

The weakest point of household scissors with plastic handles is the place where the shanks of the steel halves with plastic handles are attached. Usually, after the marked connection breaks, the tool becomes unsuitable for the work intended for it and the broken cutting tool is put aside in a far corner, where it can lie for many years, or is immediately thrown into the trash.

But scissors combined in material with such a seemingly fatal breakdown can be completely restored quickly and without much difficulty, and this does not require expensive, scarce materials, specialized devices or highly qualified performers. Any adult or even a high school student can cope with such a generally simple job.

How to fix a broken scissor handle

We start by using a sharp utility knife to carefully and carefully extend the groove in the broken plastic handle to the length of the tail part of the steel half.

We cover the steel tail section on both sides superglue and insert the plastic handle all the way into the resulting oblong groove, tapping it with a small mallet or any wooden block.

Add some more to the groove superglue and using a manicure spatula or other similar means, press a small amount of ordinary cotton wool on top.

Then we tightly wrap the junction of the metal and plastic parts of the scissors in several layers with ordinary sewing threads, impregnating them several times with superglue, including after the wrapping process is completed.

We leave the repair area for as long as indicated on the superglue label or in the instruction leaflet included with the glue package. Thanks to through impregnation superglue The thread winding turns into super-stone in hardness and strength.

It cannot be scuffed, scratched, damaged, etc. When tapped with some hard object, the thread-glue winding makes a metallic sound, although it is not metallic in nature.

The connection between the metal part of the scissors and the plastic handle turned out to be so strong, rigid and reliable that with restored scissors you can cut not only any paper, cardboard, regardless of thickness and density, all kinds of fabrics, but also thick plastic and even hard plastic without any consequences for this cutting tool. plywood.
