Dahlia from foamiran
Foamiran (foam, fom, plastic suede or simply foamed latex) is a new product in the world of needlework that allows you to easily create beautiful bouquets and hair accessories. It has become especially relevant for mothers of charming little children who want to create elastic bands and hairpins with their own hands. The easiest to make, oddly enough, are flowers with a large number of small petals - dandelions, asters, dahlias, chrysanthemums.
The naturalness of the flower largely depends on the chosen color of foamiran and its tinting with paints or pastels.
Materials and tools.
Have you ever tried gluing rubber? Surely, for this you needed Moment glue and considerable effort. Foam is also a thin sheet of latex foam, which makes it difficult to work with. The best way to fix it is hot glue. So, to work, you just need a glue gun and rods for it.
In addition, you will need:
- Iron.
- Two sheets of foamiran - white and green.
- A tube of lemon-colored paint.
- Scissors.
- A pair of ladybugs on a sticky base.
- Elastic band, hairpin or bandage, at your discretion.
- Synthetic brush.
Stages of work.
First of all, you should prepare strips of foam, 30-40 cm long, of different widths:
- 2 pieces 15 mm each
- One 20mm
- 25 mm
- 30 mm
We cut one of the strips 15 mm wide into small fringes.
First cut the second strip into 5 mm strips, and then make a “clove” from each of them.
Subsequent strips are cut in the same way, but with an increase in the width of the “clove” by 2 mm.
Next, each of the prepared strips must be shaped. Foamiran sheets are straight, like paper, while flowers, on the contrary, have curved and wavy petals. The material is attractive precisely because it can be easily modeled and molded when heated. Sequentially, apply each of the strips to an iron heated in medium mode (cotton).
Don't be afraid - latex does not stick to the heated surface of the iron and does not leave marks on it. The thicker the fom, the more effort you will have to make to bend the petals - a thin one, 1 mm thick, twists itself, 2 mm - you need to stretch and bend it.
Having prepared each of the strips, we proceed to assembling the flower.
For convenience, it is better to take a toothpick or a wire around which you will twist the “petals”. Before the very first turn, drop a little glue onto the beginning of the strip and squeeze it around the “axis”. Gradually glue the first fringe strip in a circle: hot glue hardens very quickly, so you should not apply it more than 2 cm in length.
The “fringe” must be used in its entirety, no matter how long your stripe is, as a result you will get a flower that looks like a chrysanthemum.
The following stripes, except for the last, widest one, are glued in one row.
The final strip is glued completely and the longer it is, the more magnificent the dahlia will be.
But each flower, in addition to a luxurious bud, also has foliage, which we make from a green leaf.
We also apply the leaves to the iron, shape them and apply a design on them with folded scissors or a toothpick. We seal the back of the flower with a circle cut from foam, similar in size to the bottom of the flower.
Then we glue the leaves.
Toning.
You can tint foamiran in various ways, the most accessible of which is the “dry brush” technique. A small amount of paint, acrylic or oil, is applied to a piece of paper. A dry brush is dipped into it, which should then be thoroughly cleaned of excess on the paper and only after that should you begin to tint the petals.
Glue a couple of ladybugs to the petals, and a hairpin or elastic band on the back side. A chic accessory for a little princess or prom is ready.
