Hair band made of felt and beads
Felt is one of the most popular materials for needlework. It is especially successful in making various decorations and appliqués. At the same time, felt can serve both as the basis of some handicraft item and as a direct material for its manufacture. I make felt hair ties and decorate them with beads. I would like to demonstrate a master class of one such thing in this article.
I made the elastic for my brown hair, so I chose the appropriate color scheme - brown and beige felt, brown and gold beads. I have a metal button decoration in the center. First, I cut out four squares from felt with sides of approximately 4x4 and 2.5x2.5 cm.
I put the large brown squares aside for now. I trimmed the beige squares around the perimeter with beads. I didn’t sew every bead, but every other bead. It’s faster this way, but nothing bulges. Then I sewed the corners of the beige square to the brown square to make a diamond shape.
I sewed a second beige square on top in the same way. Only the corners need to be overlapped with the sides of the bottom square.
I made a hole in the center with nail scissors. I secured the button stem in it. The button is metal and has a square shape, so it fits well with my craft. I cut off the corners of the large brown square.
I start sewing beads around the button – small brown ones and large gold ones.
Then beyond the perimeter of beige squares.
I have one brown square left. I apply it to the bottom of the elastic band and also cut off the corners. Since I sewed the beads and sewed the felt, there were rough seams on the back of the elastic. This detail - a brown square - will hide everything, and at the same time make the product thicker and stronger.
My brown felt is self-adhesive, so I just glue the two pieces together. But if the felt is simple, then the two parts can be sewn together with a decorative stitch. It will turn out very nice too.
All that remains is to sew on the elastic itself. For this I took a simple brown penny elastic band.
And it turned out to be such a wonderful hair decoration.
