Jacket and hat for baby

Using this master class, you can knit a jacket for a height of 62-68 cm.
Materials: children's acrylic YarnArt Baby (300 m in 200 g), knitting needles No. 3 regular and stocking, 4-5 buttons, a couple of extra knitting needles.

Types of knitting:
1. Elastic band. Facial knitting: alternate knit 1, purl 1. loop. Purl knitting: vice versa - alternate 1 purl, 1 knit. loop
2. Basic pattern. Front side: front loops. Wrong side: alternating until the end of the row (K1, P1, K1, etc.).
3. Edge loops. Always knit loops.
4. Button hole.
Close 1 or 2 loops (depending on the size of the button). In the next row, in place of the hole, the removed number of loops is cast on.
Jacket
Back
Cast on 65 stitches on knitting needles. Knit with an elastic band of 4 cm, not forgetting about the edge loops at the beginning and end of the row (I got 11 rows).

Next we knit between the edges with a main pattern of 21.5 cm.

We close the loops and we get the back of the future jacket (you don’t have to close it and leave it on the knitting needle if you sew the product the way I do). Front and back sides in the photo. I liked the pattern on the reverse side better.

Left shelf
Holes for buttons will be located on this shelf. We cast on 36 loops.

We knit 4 cm with an elastic band (11 rows) between the edge loops. Next we knit 1 edge loop, 29 loops with the main pattern, 5 loops with an elastic band (this is a placket) and again 1 edge loop. After 2 cm of knitting, in the middle of the bar we make a hole for a button. We make the following holes at intervals of 3-4 cm. I made only 4 holes on the entire jacket and covered 2 loops because the button is quite large; you can create a hole on the neckline as well.

We knit 18 cm and leave 12 loops on the right edge on an additional needle for the neckline.

In each front row, after that, first close 3 loops, then 2 loops twice, and the last time 1 loop. This results in a round neck.

We knit to a back height of 21.5 cm. Now we close the loops evenly if you assemble the jacket with a needle.

I left it on an additional knitting needle, since I connect the parts with knitting needles (more details about this method are described below).
Right shelf
Knitted exactly the same as the left one, only symmetrically. In this case, there is no need to make holes for the buttons and the placket is knitted on the opposite side. The loops for the neck are also left on the other side. As a result, we get 3 parts.

Sleeves
For one sleeve we cast on 39 stitches on the knitting needles.

Between the edge loops, knit 5.5 cm (18 rows) with an elastic band.

We knit further with the main pattern. To bevel the sleeves, you need to make additions at the end and beginning of every 8 row. Such increases are knitted 5 times.

The added loop is shown in red in the photo. After 12.5 cm from the elastic, we close all the loops or leave them on the knitting needle.

This is how the sleeve turned out, unfolded and folded.
Assembling the jacket.
1. Sew the straps to the back at the shoulders. To do this, you can use a thread and a needle, but it seems to me that you get neater seams if you connect them with knitting needles. How to do it? To begin, the two pieces to be sewn must be on knitting needles and have an equal number of stitches. Next, we take the knitting needles with one hand parallel to each other and knit the knit stitch, removing two loops (from one and the other knitting needles together). Knit the next loop, cast off.

The seam is almost invisible from the front side, and from the back you get a neat braid.

2. Now you can start working on the neck. We need 12 loops left on one side and the other. On each of these knitting needles we lift 8 loops from the bevel of the neck, making 20 loops on both sides. There are loops left in the middle on the back.

3. Next, knit the required length of the neck (3-4 cm) or more, depending on your desire. A longer neck will make an interesting collar. You can also make another hole for a button or two. I decided to leave it that way.

4. Sew in the sleeves so that the middle coincides with the shoulder seam. I knitted the sleeves in the same way as in the previous case. At the junction of the sleeve with the jacket you need to crochet the same number of loops as in the sleeve. Link them together.

Next we sew the sleeve along the fold.

It turns out a neatly sewn sleeve, turn it inside out and hide the extra threads.

We do the same procedure with the other sleeve.
5. Now we sew the jacket on the sides, just as carefully.
cap
I first knitted the hat in a milky color, the same as the jacket. But then I changed my mind, so the end result was blue. For knitting we need 5 double needles. We cast on 80 loops, distribute them over 4 knitting needles.

We knit in a circle with an elastic band about 5 cm (15 rows).

Next we continue with the already familiar basic pattern. Knit 10.5 cm.

Now you need to make decreases. On each knitting needle, remove 2 loops at the corners, knit 1 as a knit stitch and pull through the 2 removed ones. You will get 4 decreases, you can make 6 by simply distributing them evenly throughout the knitting. The photo shows 3 loops turned into one.

In each front row we repeat the decreases in the same places 6 more times.

It turns out something similar to a hat. We knit another row in this way: 2 loops together, like knit stitches. We tighten the remaining loops with thread and sew on the pompom. It can be made large or small, the same color or contrasting, or multi-colored. To your taste.

The result is such a cute set for my nephew.
