Needed to make a keychain

  • Two-component transparent epoxy resin.
  • Wooden slats.
  • Resin dye.

Well, you’ll also see other little materials below.

How to make a keychain or pendant from epoxy resin

Let's take a suitable size wooden slats. It is better if it is stale, aged by time. Although the new one can also be used.

We clamp the rail in a vice and break it into two parts with a hammer. This is necessary in order to create an interesting relief on the edges.

Next, we take thin plexiglass and make a frame out of it for pouring.
Epoxy resin keychain

Temporarily glue with super glue to the edges of the slats.
Epoxy resin keychain

Seal all joints with hot glue.
Note: quadruple - there is no upper side. But so that the epoxy resin has a slightly higher level (for further processing), we make beads along the edges with hot glue.
Epoxy resin keychain

We seal everything hermetically.

Preparing the resin. To do this, mix the components in the proportion specified in the instructions for the epoxy resin. To accurately determine proportions, it is good to use digital scales with an accuracy of tenths of a gram.

Add dye. I chose green. You can use any other one.
Epoxy resin keychain

Mix everything thoroughly.

Pour the mixture into the body of the future keychain or pendant. We pour a level up to the sides using hot glue.

Let the resin harden for the time specified in its instructions for use.
Peel off the plexiglass. To make it come off better, we heat its sides with a manual gas lighter.

The result is already interesting.

Let's move on to processing. We saw off the excess parts of the slats with a hacksaw.
Epoxy resin keychain

We grind the edges on a belt machine. This can of course be done manually using coarse sandpaper.
Epoxy resin keychain

We sand the wooden parts, giving them the desired shape.
Epoxy resin keychain

To ensure that the edges are perfectly flat, you need to sand them with fine sandpaper on a flat table.

Now let's polish. Here you can use car polish or other paste. You can also use dry polishing with a special cloth.
Epoxy resin keychain

This is what happened. Everything is transparent and there is no clouding.
Epoxy resin keychain

We cover the wooden parts of the keychain with drying oil. You can, of course, use varnish or another wood coating.
Epoxy resin keychain

Drill a hole and install a hook for hanging.
Epoxy resin keychain

The result will meet your expectations 100%. It looks simply magical and wonderful, especially considering that it is an ordinary piece of wood.

ABRO (USA) and the resin and hardener are transparent. Russian, from DEKART - the resin itself is transparent, the hardener turns yellow. Surely there are other manufacturers whose resin and hardener are transparent

But how do you know which resin doesn’t turn yellow? Sellers don’t always know, because students often work with them on the side
