Subscriber splitter - what you need to know
The TAP subscriber splitter is an installation element used to create branches from one TV trunk to several consumers, while maintaining a pass-through signal. With its help, the television signal from the main cable is divided between several apartments.
Decoding the markings of splitters
The digital markings used on the splitter body allow you to determine its characteristics. The first digit indicates the number of possible branches, and the rest indicate the level of signal attenuation on the taps. For example, the marking 424F means that the coupler has 4 connectors for connecting subscribers, and each of them has a signal loss of 24 dB. The letter in the marking indicates that the device uses an F-connector.
TAP has 2 more connectors than connected subscribers. One is used for the input of the main cable, the second for its output without loss of signal strength, and the rest for connecting subscribers. The cable coming out of the splitter goes further to the next floor of the house, where it is connected to another tap.
Each connector on the device body is labeled:
- IN – input from the highway;
- OUT – trunk output;
- TAP – tap for subscriber.
Why does TAR have different resistance values on different floors?
There are splitters with different amounts of signal loss. The lower this indicator, the clearer the picture on the TV. However, splitters are installed in the main line according to strict regulations. The closer to the antenna or amplifier, the greater the resistance should be. Thanks to this, all subscribers on the same line receive a signal of the same quality. If the resistance on the taps to the TVs in the first TAPs is too low, the signal will not reach the consumers of the last tap.
Why do TAPs have different numbers of subscriber taps?
The number of outputs is determined by the number of subscribers who need to be connected to the TV line. For example, if there are only 2 apartments on the staircase, then a splitter for 2 subscribers is used.
Many people think that each tap on a tap is intended for only one TV. Therefore, they can take 2-3 connectors to connect all the TVs in their apartment. In this case, the bill for telecommunication services will be calculated at a double or triple rate. It would be more correct to make a connection to the apartment from one TAP connector, and then divide it into the required number of branches for each TV.
