How to easily fix an office chair
Cheap office chairs are not particularly durable. So, after six months of use, I had such an unpleasant annoyance as the armrest cracked. It cracked at the fastening point - it turned out to be the weakest link in the entire structure. Naturally, it’s a shame to throw out a chair, especially since it’s not difficult to repair such a defect, and I’ll show you how.
Will need
- Two-component epoxy adhesive.
- Thick wire 2 mm.
Repairing a cracked office chair armrest
Unscrew all the screws and remove the armrest.
If you don’t have thick wire at hand, you can use a clothes hanger, cutting it into pieces with wire cutters. Regular steel wire with a diameter of 2-3 mm.
We will select a drill according to the diameter of the wire. You can take 0.1-0.2 mm more if you don’t have exactly that.
Let's drill four holes near the cracked area, see photo. No need to drill close to the mounting hole.
Use pliers to bend the wire along the distance between the holes.
The entire repair kit is ready:
Mix two-component glue in the proportions specified in its instructions.
We initially coat the joint of the fracture.
Then we insert the staples and bend them from the inside.Excess pieces of wire can be bitten off. We tie the armrest with a rope to securely fix it while the glue dries.
We coat the staples on all sides with glue. This will give even more reliability and will not allow the unit to deform in the future.
After the glue has hardened (about 24 hours), you can install the part in place and check the functionality of the armrest.
This completes the simple repair. Its price is naturally cheaper than buying a new chair.
