How to refresh an old computer chair in 1 hour
Cheap office chairs quickly become unusable. The upholstery is the first to deteriorate. It gets dirty, becomes thinner and takes on an unpresentable appearance. But there is no need to rush to throw the chair into a landfill. His life can be extended, and furniture will last about another year. If the fabric on the chair looks exactly the same, it needs to be replaced.
You need to remove the back and disconnect the plastic cover. If there is damage on it, you can seal it with strong double-sided tape from the inside.
The seat is unscrewed from the legs using screwdrivers. The bolts must be unscrewed not one by one, but crosswise. This will make the job easier.
When the legs are detached, the plastic is removed.
Now the material is spread on the floor, the parts are placed on top. It is better to give preference to a leather substitute. This is an economical and practical option. It will not get dirty as much as fabric.
In order not to waste time on measurements, the back and seat are outlined with chalk.
Now you need to make an indent so that it is enough to tuck and stitch on the other side. Approximately 10 - 15 cm.
Patterns are cut out.
The required part is placed in the inner contour, the edges of the leatherette are folded. Using a long sewing needle and ordinary tailor's threads, the new material is sewn to the old.
When using furniture clips, the work will be significantly reduced in time. In this case, you can tear off the old fabric and attach the leatherette to the plywood part of the chair. If you don’t have a tool, then thread will do.
In some places, especially at the corners, the leatherette forms folds. You need to lay them flat so that they don’t puff up on the front side. Do not stretch the material too much when sewing. It should be remembered that when a person sits on a chair, the inner lining and upholstery will bend. For reliability, you can sew in a circle twice.
The seat is on the reverse side.
Front seat.
Do the same with the second part. Wrinkles and stripes on the material will be smoothed out within a day. The chair is going back together. If there is a protruding fold left somewhere, you can try to push it under the plastic.
What will happen in the end:
Now it’s nice to sit on a clean seat. The furniture again has a decent, neat appearance and is ready to serve for some more time.
The entire work takes about 1 hour and costs minimal money. The result is visible immediately.
