How to wash a foam gun for pennies? Let's make a useful device

Polyurethane foam today has become a permanent attribute of builders involved in installing windows, doors, etc. In the household, it is needed from time to time, which is why the problem of foam drying inside the gun arises. As a result, it becomes impossible to use it. But there is a way by which you can quickly and practically cost-free restore the functionality of such a tool, without using an expensive means to clean it from dried polyurethane foam.

Will need

In order to use the proposed method, we will need the most common substances and objects:

solvent type "646";
gun with dried foam;
empty foam container;
medical syringe 20 ml.

To make a device for cleaning a gun from dried foam, we must have the following tools and materials on hand: an angle grinder, scissors or a knife, pliers and a self-tapping screw, a cloth napkin, a hot glue gun and a gas burner.

The process of making the fixture and cleaning the gun

Since we will have to deal with rather aggressive substances, we protect our hands with gloves and our eyes with goggles. It is safer to carry out this work outdoors or indoors with good ventilation.

From an empty cylinder, using any suitable tool, cut off the upper part in which the plastic valve is installed. We won’t need it, so we remove it using pliers and a self-tapping screw. Wipe the inside of the lid with a cloth or rag.

We insert the conical tip of a disposable medical syringe into the hole in the center of the lid and fill the space around it with glue from a hot-melt gun. Give time for the glue to set.

After this, screw the cap with the syringe installed into it into the threaded hole of the gun. In order for the connection to be strong and airtight, lightly heat it with the flame of a gas burner. As a result, the plastic will soften a little and the glue will harden faster.

We take out the rod with the piston from the syringe cylinder and pour the solvent into it.

We return the piston back, pull the trigger of the gun and immediately press the piston. As a result, the cleaning fluid dissolves and flushes the valve, spring and all channels to the gun outlet.

This method of cleaning a gun from dried polyurethane foam, considering the retail price of the “646” solvent and a special product, is about 4.5 times cheaper.
