How to make oat milk at home
It can be found in the retail chain under the name “Ne moloko”. It does not contain lactose and casein, as in cow's milk, therefore, it can be safely consumed by those who have an allergic reaction to these substances. In addition, it is safe for diabetics, as well as for those who like to diet and fast. Vegetarians can also safely eat it. By the way, this drink can be used as a light snack, since due to its calorie content (and a standard glass of oat milk contains about 120 calories), it dulls the feeling of hunger. Moreover, using oat milk you can prepare various cocktails, smoothies and other drinks, cereals, desserts (mousse, for example), pancakes, and also add it to coffee or tea. To prepare this drink you only need two ingredients. These are the most common oatmeal (classic “Hercules”) and water. When preparing oat milk, you cannot do without a blender (it is better to use a stationary machine with a bowl).
Place the oatmeal in a spacious bowl, fill it with boiled cold water, mix it and, covering it with a lid or towel, leave it on the table for several hours (from 4 to 12) for swelling.
After the designated time has passed, pour the swollen cereal along with water into the blender bowl and blend until a homogeneous mass is formed. Using a sieve and gauze (we put it in several layers), strain the contents of the bowl.
As a result, we get ready-made oat milk of a creamy color with the aroma of oatmeal and a small handful of extracts (by the way, they can be used to prepare oatmeal or added to baked goods).
This drink has a bland taste.
To improve the taste, you can add some sweetener (granulated sugar, maple or berry syrup, honey), pureed fresh banana or dates, salt and spices (nutmeg, ginger, turmeric) to the finished oat milk.
If you do not use this drink immediately, sediment will soon form in it, so you need to shake it before drinking.
It is recommended to store prepared oat milk for no more than 3 days, and always in the refrigerator.
Bon appetit!
