How to make sheet plastic from PET bottles
Soda and beer bottles are made from craft-friendly thermoplastic that can be used to make dozens of useful things. This is the most suitable material for recycling at home. Bottles are typically cut into shrink-wrapping strips, and another lesser-known use for them is in the manufacture of plastic sheets.
The bottom of the bottle is cut off and it unfolds lengthwise. After this, the neck is cut off. It is most convenient to cut in this order. When dissolving, it is not necessary to make even cuts.
Then the cut out middle is screwed onto the board. The size of the board is selected according to the type of bottle. For example, from a 2 liter bottle with a regular neck you can cut a sheet measuring 22x35 cm, with a 1 liter bottle naturally smaller. It needs to be able to be stretched across the board and screwed to its sides. It is necessary to fasten 2 sides. Each one uses 4 self-tapping screws with a wide head.It is important to twist them all the way so that the sheet is pressed well and cannot pull out when shrinking. All subsequent bottles can be screwed with self-tapping screws into the same holes.
Next, the stretched sheet is heated with a hairdryer, first at minimum settings, and if shrinkage does not occur completely, the temperature increases. If the bottle is a beer bottle, then it has thin walls, so the lowest heat will be enough. Soda bottles should be heated hotter. During heat shrinking, the entire relief is leveled, and the sheet becomes completely flat and stops curling into a tube.
Then the screws are unscrewed and the workpiece is trimmed with scissors.
The resulting sheets are used to make various garden decorations and crafts. They can be used as roofing material, nailed onto the sheathing like tiles or shingles. Of course, you can’t stock up on such sheets to cover an entire house, but for rabbit hutches it’s quite possible to make several hundred pieces. Such flaps can be soldered or sewn together into a large sheet. That, in turn, is suitable for covering a greenhouse. Sheet plastic can be obtained not only from ordinary bottles, but also from large bottles of 5-20 liters. The area of the sheets of them will naturally be appropriate.
