How to quickly and easily make a sheath from a plastic bottle
To safely carry a knife, sheaths and sheaths of various designs are used. Usually they are sold with a knife. If there is no sheath, then you can make one with your own hands from an ordinary plastic bottle. They will turn out to be very light and practical.
The bottom and neck of a plastic bottle are cut off. The resulting tube unfolds lengthwise. It is flattened and folded in half. The line is pressed down with a crease so that the plastic holds its shape.
The knife is applied with the butt to the bend line. Then, using a felt-tip pen or marker on the plastic, mark the transition line between the blade and the handle.
The top layer of double plastic is cut off from the handle side according to the mark made.
After this, the knife is placed between the two layers so that the beginning of the handle rests on the cut.
Then you need to make a small flap on the top layer, which will make it easier to get the blade into the sheath in the future. To do this, a trim is made at the plastic crease line by 3-5 mm, and the top is folded.
After bending the cuff, you need to cut the sheath to the shape of the knife.
To do this, he rests the butt against the crease line between the layers, and the blade is outlined with a marker. Cutting plastic with scissors is done with an indentation of 8 mm in the larger direction. It is important not to cut off part of the plastic under the handle; it will be needed later.
To connect the sheath, you need to melt several holes with a hot nail to a tolerance of 8 mm. Aluminum rivets are inserted into them. The distance between the rivets is kept to a minimum, approximately the size of a finger. The tail remaining at the top of the sheath is bent in half and also connected with rivets. The resulting loop will allow you to hang the sheath on a waist belt or cord to tie it to a backpack.
An alternative to rivets can be a lace made of synthetic material, which is passed through the fused holes like a thread and a needle. You can also stitch the sheath with thin PET tape cut from the same bottle.
The resulting sheath is very light. You can hide a knife in them when going on a hiking trip. They will prevent the blade from coming into contact with packed items, without making the knife more bulky and heavy. Depending on the color of the knife handle, the sheath can be made from a brown, green, yellow, black, red bottle to match them together.
