How to make the simplest wind generator blades
When assembling a wind generator from scrap materials to generate free electricity, there is a difficulty in making blades that can respond even to weak gusts of wind. Without a good impeller, even a factory alternator will not work properly. Effective blades can be made very cheaply from readily available materials.
The radiator fan impeller will serve as the basis for the wind generator blades. It can be bought very cheaply at any auto repair shop. This is much easier than inventing and making a homemade mount. To make it work on a wind generator from the wind, you only need to lengthen its blades.
This will require a section of sewer pipe of 50-100 cm, which depends on the size of the existing generator.
The pipe is marked into 4 identical longitudinal parts and cut along the lines.
The resulting sections are folded together and tightened along the edges with self-tapping screws, which will allow them to be processed together.
This, firstly, will speed up the process, and secondly, it will allow you to get absolutely identical blades, which is important for balancing. For convenient processing, you can avoid drawing poorly visible markings, but instead glue electrical tape to cut the workpieces along it.
The blanks are trimmed to obtain the optimal shape for capturing the wind. To do this, closer to the base they should be wide and narrow towards the tips. 2 mounting holes are drilled at the beginning of the folded blades.
Then the workpiece is cut along the edges to remove the part with the screws.
Next, you need to clean the edges of the separated workpieces with sandpaper or a file so that they slide through the air better. The prepared blades are screwed to the blades of the automobile impeller. You need to use 2-3 fasteners with washers to prevent gusts of wind from breaking the plastic.
It is advisable to cut off the protruding part of the radiator impeller blades, since they only make the structure heavier and practically do not react to the wind. If the radiator impeller used is designed for not 4, but 8 blades, then they are made from 2 pieces of pipe. At the same time, it is important, when giving them shape, to put all 8 blanks together and connect them so that they turn out absolutely identical.
What you will need:
- radiator fan impeller from a car;
- plastic sewer pipe 100 mm;
- bolts, nuts, washers.
