The simplest do-it-yourself round rod machine

If it is necessary to prepare wooden round dowels, you need to prepare a special round pin machine for this. It can be made from ordinary steel strip.

Materials:

steel strip 40 mm;
M8 bolt and nut;
square 12x12 mm.

Manufacturing process

2 pieces of 100 mm each are cut from the strip.

They need to be folded in half and drilled in the center, so they will turn out symmetrical. The diameter of the hole must correspond to the desired size of the resulting dowel.

Next, diagonals are drawn on the workpieces, and cuts are made on one side to the hole.

The blanks are welded together through a nut.

It is applied from the side of the oblique cut. .

Opposite it, a square piece is welded between the workpieces

From a piece of strip you need to turn a knife, almost the same as that used in hand planes.

It is advisable to harden it. An 8 mm wide cut is made along the knife.

Then it is installed on the previously made body and pressed with a bolt screwed into a welded nut.

The machine is placed in a vice. Then you need to clamp a stick or thin strip in the drill chuck and drive the workpiece through the hole with the tip of the knife.The machine works on the principle of a pencil sharpener. In a similar way, you can make a device for making shovel handles, only instead of a drill you will need to use a powerful electric motor.
