How to reliably and cheaply seal a hole in the roof
Roofing materials, especially slate, often have holes from fallen branches or old nails. Water flows through them into the attic or into the attic insulation. Such holes can be repaired very quickly, and as they say, for centuries, and in a very affordable way.
Materials:
- a piece of fabric;
- silicone sealant.
Roof repair process
If necessary, the surface around the hole should be dried and cleaned with a metal brush.
Then silicone sealant is applied around the perimeter and spread in a thick layer.
A piece of fabric, preferably a durable synthetic one, is placed on top of the sealant. It is smoothed so that the silicone comes out, saturating the fibers.
After this, you need to apply more sealant and rub it.
When it dries, the fabric will no longer allow water to pass under the roof. If you use a patch and silicone that matches the color of the roofing material, then the sealed area below will be completely invisible. When repairing a metal roof, it is better to use a heat-resistant sealant as it gets very hot in the sun. This way the patch is guaranteed not to come off.
