How to use silicone sealant from a tube without a gun
Typically, the sealants that we use in everyday life are packaged in hard plastic or metal containers and inserted into a special gun, which, when the trigger is pulled, is squeezed out of the tube. But how to use the tool if this very tool is not at hand? It turns out that it can be replaced with a homemade device, which is not at all difficult to make and does not require large expenses.
Will need
Let's say we need to use silicone sealant packaged in a plastic tube, but we don't have a special gun. We will make a replacement from the following materials, tools and devices:
- long bolt with nut;
- a sheet of thick cardboard;
- tube of superglue;
- a piece of copper wire;
- sewing and construction knife.
Manufacturing process of a tube gun substitute
Select a bolt with a threaded part approximately equal to the height of the tube.
Only in this case will we be able to fully use its contents.The cardboard must be thick enough to provide strength, which will increase when it is impregnated with superglue.
Depending on the thickness of the cardboard sheet, we cut out several disks so that they fit freely into the bottom of the tube. In their center we make identical hexagonal holes, commensurate with the outer contours of the nut. In one disk we cut a round hole for the passage of the bolt rod.
All this can be easily and quickly cut using ordinary scissors and a stationery knife.
We make exactly the same “nest” in cardboard strips of the same size for the head of a long bolt.
We glue them together using superglue, placing a strip with a round hole on top. We insert a bolt into a block glued together from cardboard strips and ensure that its head is in the hexagonal hole intended for it.
We do the same with the disks, but between the middle disks we place two parallel copper wires of equal length symmetrically to the central hole for the nut without overlapping it. Place a nut in the “socket” formed in the middle of the disks.
On the cylindrical surface of the plastic cartridge, closer to the edge from the bottom side, we pierce two holes with an awl at the same level on both sides in opposite directions.
Before inserting the cylindrical monoblock into the bottom of the cartridge, we insert the ends of the copper wires into the holes in the walls of the tube and, after installing the disks in place, tightly twist the ends of the wires in pairs on the outside of the cartridge.
We screw the bolt into the nut fixed in the monoblock of disks until its end rests against the movable piston bottom of the cartridge.
Using a construction knife, we cut off the upper part of the central protrusion on the plastic tube and the tip of the applicator, and then screw it onto the thread of the protrusion.
Now you can, protecting your hands with gloves, screw in the bolt until silicone sealant appears from the cut end of the applicator.
