How to make a 12V soldering iron from glow plugs
For soldering small SMD components, it is best to use a soldering gun. It heats all chip legs evenly, allowing them to be attached to boards 10 times faster than with a regular soldering iron. You can make a soldering hair dryer from a regular glow plug from a car.
Materials:
- steel tube 15-20 mm;
- glow plug;
- wire;
- tin;
- wires;
- plastic pipe 32-40 mm;
- micro fan 12V;
- alligator clips.
Hot air gun manufacturing process
Wire is wound around the glow plug body in two places to form springs.
They will allow you to place it in a metal tube. The latter will serve as a housing and a guide casing for air flow.
An adapter washer is cut out of tin to compensate for the difference in diameters of the metal and plastic pipes. It needs to be soldered to a smaller tube.
You only need a small piece of plastic pipe, which will serve as a soldering iron handle. 2 two-wire wires are passed through it, one of which goes to the fan. Their ends are stripped and twisted. Then the red “+” must be soldered to the spark plug terminal. The black “–” is soldered to a metal tube or washer.The mass will be supplied to the spark plug through wire springs.
The adapter on the metal pipe is glued to the plastic pipe with superglue.
Then a fan is glued onto the reverse side. The second wire must be brought out.
Alligator clips are installed on the wire.
After this, the soldering iron is connected to a battery or a powerful 12V power supply.
It will heat up quickly and begin to melt the solder almost immediately.
