How to make a device for making gratings from a rod
The price of window grilles is much higher than the cost of the metal spent on their production. Therefore, if you need several of them, then you should make them yourself. To do this, you will need to weld a simple device - a bending jig.
Materials:
- Steel square 10x10 mm;
- sheet steel or strip;
- turned door hinge;
- round timber 20 mm.
Manufacturing process of steel bar bending fixture
First of all, you need to cut 4 blanks from a 10x10 mm square, each 80 mm long. Their ends need to be cut at 45 degrees. Moreover, both ends are cut in the same direction. You will also need a piece of the same square 20 mm long, but with straight ends.
Next you need to make the sole of the machine. This can be a piece of sheet steel, or several strips welded together. The final size of the sole should be at least 80x200 mm.
Square pieces cut at 45 degrees are welded onto the sole, as shown in the example. The gap between them is formed by a rod from which the lattice will be bent.But it needs to go in later without problems and not get stuck.
A cut piece from half of a turned hinge with a pin is welded to the far right corner of the sole.
The conductor itself, in the absence of a vice, can be welded onto a pole driven into the ground or concreted.
A previously prepared short section of a square needs to be welded from the end of the sole to the near right corner to form a limiter.
A bending handle is welded from the second half of the loop and a round rod. The longer it is, the easier it will be to bend the blanks for the lattice.
How to use the conductor
To make a lattice, you need to insert a rod from the side of the handle to the end of the first half of the jig. After that, it bends by turning the handle.
The rod is moved further and turned over to fit the bend into the 45 degree gap, and bends again.
Then the workpiece is moved to the edge of the jig to catch the bend, and the same 2 steps are repeated as the first time. Bends according to this pattern are made to the end of the rod. After the first workpiece, it will be possible to determine exactly what length the next even rods should be in order to obtain a grid of the desired size.
The bent workpieces are welded.
The result is a fairly durable and beautiful lattice. All that remains is to cut it to the required size and weld a frame from a corner onto it to securely fasten it to the window.
