How to make unusual scissors for cutting steel squares
The idea for the original device came from neighbors who asked not to cut rolled metal with a grinder during the child’s nap.
Will need
To implement it, the following materials were required:- a piece of channel No. 10 about 1 meter (No. 12, 14, 16, 18 and even 20 are suitable, if the weight is not scary!);
- a piece of metal pipe 500–700 mm;
- steel plate 10–12 mm thick.
Manufacturing process of square profile cutting shears
On a metal plate, using a caliper with carbide jaws, mark the contours of the blanks of future knives. Having secured the plate in a vice, use an angle grinder to cut workpieces measuring approximately 150x100 mm.
Markings are applied in the center of the short ends using a metal scribe and a contrasting permanent marker.
Using a cutting wheel, grooves 10 mm wide are cut to a depth of 20 mm. After cutting the outer corners of the sample at 45 degrees, a pair of finished blades is obtained.
IMPORTANT! The edges of the grooves must be kept as sharp as possible.One of the blanks is welded with a double-sided seam perpendicular to the wall at the end of the metal channel.
The second blade must be equipped with a lever.To do this, at the end of the pipe section, a grinder is used to make a cut into which another knife blank is inserted and welded.
Tool used:- grinder with cutting wheel;
- welding inverter;
- caliper, square;
- metal scribe, marker.
The scissors are ready.
Square Bar Cutting Technology
The device is placed on the floor and held with your foot while cutting. In a workshop setting, you can secure the channel to the floor with anchor bolts. A square profile is inserted into the groove of the lower knife. The lever with the second knife is put on the rod on the opposite side of the channel.
And then they remember old Archimedes and turn the lever 100–120 degrees: oops! - a piece of rod is in your hands.
The rupture of the metal at the point of twisting occurs due to the weakening of the crystal lattice. In this case, the end is obtained with slightly rounded edges, which allows you to avoid additional processing of the tear area.
Thus, hand scissors for cutting steel squares to size can be used:- In the absence of electricity.
- Far from the outlet.
- Without a hacksaw for metal.
- To save cutting wheels.
- If you have shy neighbors.
