How to modify an anvil with a simple device for making any clamps

During installation and repair work of pipelines, clamps are used, consisting of two halves, tightened together with two bolts. This is a very reliable, comfortable mount. A self-tapping screw or screw can be welded to one of the halves of the clamp, thereby allowing it to be attached to the wall. Also, if you place a rubber gasket under the clamp, you can use it to close fistulas in pipes under pressure. This is a universally useful mount. It is easy to make such clamps with your own hands using a simple device.

Materials:

  • Steel plate 16-20 mm;
  • rail;
  • steel round timber 10-20 mm.

The process of making fixtures and bending clamps

It is necessary to cut a workpiece of approximately 40x80 mm from a thick-walled steel plate. A longitudinal cut is made in it, into which a strip for bending clamps can be placed.

The resulting workpiece is welded flat onto the rail so that the cut remains open.Instead of a rail, you can use an anvil, or screw the part to a large, heavy wooden block.

With a slight indentation from the workpiece, it is necessary to weld 2 round timber fingers in the transverse direction. The gap between them is about 10-15 mm.

To use the device, you need to prepare and mark the steel strips. Their length should be half the circumference of the pipe for which the clamp is being made, plus 20-25 mm per eyelet at each end. On one side of the workpiece, 2 marks are placed for bending the eyes, and on the second another pair, so that when bending along them, you end up with a U-shaped bracket.

Now the strip is inserted along the marks into the section of the device, and bent with a hammer. First, the eyes are bent, then corners are made on the remaining marks.

To round the U-shaped bracket, you need to insert it between two fingers on the rail. Then, by hitting the edge of the eye with a hammer and smoothly moving the workpiece from the edge to the middle, we round the clamp. Afterwards, the workpiece is turned over and similarly tapped from the second end. As a result, we get a half ring.

Now all that remains is to drill the eyes. This method can be used to make clamps for both round and profile pipes. In the second case, they do not need to be rounded after bending. U-shaped brackets can also be used as handles for drawers and doors.
