How to make anti-vandal protection for a padlock

In a padlock, the locking element in the form of a shackle is not protected by anything and can be easily sawed through or simply pulled out of the body with a small crowbar. We will enclose it in a steel box and thereby increase its reliability against hacking by unauthorized persons significantly. This will require only the remains of metal, some tools and basic skills in using them.

The process of making protection for a padlock with your own hands

Depending on the size of the padlock, select a suitable corner. In our case, we cut two pieces of 10.5 cm long from the selected rolled product.

On one of them we place a lock with a latched door so that the edge of its body coincides with the edge of the corner.

We press the measuring angle to the lock escutcheon and mark the position of the upper part of the body on the shelf of the angle.While holding the lock, we open it, thereby freeing the body, which moves to the left, since the darling is pressed against the shift by the measuring angle. We also note this position.

The distance between the marks was 3 cm. Using the marks, we make a cutout in the corner shelf to the second shelf. Of course, the width of the cutout turned out to be 3 cm.

We use the cut out fragment as the end element of the protective box. Next, we place the lock on the corner shelf, mark the outer contour of the body and cut it out.

We place the closed lock on the shelf of the corner with a cutout, as in the first case. Flush with the far end of the corner, we install the previously prepared element transversely, and on top of the lock body - a fragment with a cutout that copies the contour of the lock body.

We temporarily place a plate under the lock escutcheon. On top of it, we press a piece of reinforcement to the center of the hood from the outside and weld it. We cut off the free end of the reinforcement with a stop and weld it into the transverse element.

Place the second section of a corner 10.5 cm long with a fragment welded on the side on top of the first corner and weld them together.

We make the latch hook from the leftover corners. Using a grinder, we cut a fragment-plate of the required length lengthwise in two places, bend it along the cuts, placing another fragment between them.

We press the third plate from below to the resulting node.

We weld all the elements of the assembly together and process it with a grinder and other tools until we get a latch hook of the required shape and size.

We weld the end of the box with the lock body, shackle and reinforcement stop placed in it. We weld the box to the gate post or door jamb at the calculated height, opposite to the gate or door leaf - a latch hook.

We move the lock to the open position and close the gate or door so that the latch enters the box, passes inside the shackle and takes the position necessary to close the lock. We press on the end of the lock body protruding from the box, which blocks the latch hook. Since the latch is rigidly connected to the gate or door leaf, they will be closed.
