How to cut a bend into a steel pipe without welding
In houses of the old housing stock you can still find a heating system or water supply system made of steel pipes. Their rusty, many times painted connections are difficult to unwind, so if it is necessary to make an additional line, for example, for a heated towel rail, tees are usually welded in. However, everything can be done much easier without the involvement of a welder.
Materials:
- Insert clamp;
- ball valve;
- silicone sealant.

Pipeline tapping process
For this work, you need to purchase an insert clamp. It is installed on the pipe, and it is drilled through it. Ideally, all this should be done by shutting off the water supply, but the clamp can also be used under pressure.
To begin, select the insertion location and temporarily install a clamp on the pipe. Then we drill a pipe through the hole in it.
After this, remove the insert and clean the hole on the pipe from burrs with a file. Then you need to apply sealant to half of the clamp with the hole.
Next, we put a rubber gasket on it, and spread it with silicone on top as well.
Now we align the holes on the clamp and the pipe, and tighten the bolts. We pull until it stops, and after that you can connect a tap, American or flexible hose to the insert.
Thanks to silicone, such an insert will not leak even when the rubber gasket becomes hard after years.
