How to make a simple biogas plant to produce free gas from waste
Biogas can be used for heating or operating a gas stove. It is easy to obtain using a homemade installation by processing various organic waste. Let's look at how you can assemble a similar system at home and ultimately enjoy free gas.
Materials:
- PVC pipes 4 and 2 inches;
- elbows 4 inches – 2 pcs.;
- elbow 2 inches;
- elbows 1/2 inch – 5 pcs.;
- nipples 1/2 inch – 6 pcs.;
- check valve;
- adapters from 2 to 1/2 inches – 2 pcs.
- plastic barrels of 200 l - 2 pcs.;
- PVC glue;
- truck cameras.
Biogas plant manufacturing process
At the top of two barrels a hole is made for the exit of biogas. Nipples will be glued into them.
In one barrel, a little above the middle, a hole is cut for a large pipe, through which organic matter can be filled to produce biogas. In another barrel, a little lower, a hole is made for a 2-inch pipe to drain recycled waste. Then, at the same level, 2 holes are cut in both barrels to connect them together with a large pipe.
Pipe sections need to be glued into barrels, and also installed on the filling and draining elbow. They sit on glue and nipples to allow gas to escape.
The barrels are then buried. Pits are made of brickwork on the filling pipe and drain, as shown in the photo.
Then you need to connect the nipples using elbows, a thin tube and a tee. The combined flow through the tap is directed into a PET bottle of water. Please note that the knee feed must go into the water. A tube is embedded in the bottle cap to allow gas to escape from the water seal to the storage tank.
Next, the biomaterial is prepared. For 1 kg of waste add 3 liters of water. The mixture is poured into the filling pit, from where it flows into the connected barrels. The level of biomaterial must be such that it creates a water seal in the open tubes, and the gas accumulated at the top of the barrels cannot escape through them into the atmosphere.
For the bioreactor to work, the temperature in it must be at least +18 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is optimal to place a greenhouse over it. From the water seal, gas can be directed into the car chamber, where it can be accumulated. From the moment the unit is refueled until the first gas separation occurs, approximately 20 days will pass. During this time, you need to complete the assembly of the gas exhaust system with a check valve.
A gas stove can easily operate from biogas if you install the appropriate nozzles on it. It is easy to burn gas from the chamber for heating. When the installation is operational, we fill it with fresh biomaterial and the cycle repeats.
