How and with what to repair a hole in the roof
Roof repair is work that cannot be put off. A leaking roof can significantly weaken the strength of the entire roof and damage repairs inside the home. Modern roofing materials are easily repaired and, if necessary, replaced. The same cannot be said about classic slate - it is not so easy to change. But there is an easy way to repair it.
Preparatory work
Before you begin repairing broken slate, you must prepare the following:- a brush to remove dust and dirt from the slate surface;
- tube of sealant;
- sealant gun;
- a piece of fabric - it is better if it is dense synthetic;
- a piece of foam insulation to distribute the sealant.
Slate roof repair
Before you begin, it is important to prepare the slate surface. Use a brush to sweep away all the dirt and dust that accumulates in the waves of the roof. This will help ensure reliable adhesion of the sealant to the slate.
When the slate surface is prepared, you need to apply a sealant.
Depending on the size of the damage, you can squeeze out a few peas of sealant and spread it over the surface of the slate, moving 1-2 cm from the edge of the hole. For convenience, you can use foam insulation to spread the sealant.
After the sealant has been applied to the slate, you need to apply a cloth and press it down in the places where it contacts the edges of the slate.
When the fabric is saturated with sealant and is securely connected to the slate, you can apply a little more sealant on top and also distribute it over the fabric. In this case, it is important to spread the sealant over the edges of the fabric so that it seals the edges. This will prevent the fabric patch from peeling off and water leakage during rain. It takes 12 to 24 hours for the material to dry completely.
The minimum number of tools and ease of operation allows such repair work to be carried out even on a sloping roof. High-quality and simple repairs will last a long time and will not leak even after severe frosts.
