8 useful skills when working with a tool
Today, bolts and nuts are found at every turn. But you don’t always have the right tool at hand to influence them. However, you can get out of this situation by using the eight life hacks below.
1. How to use a socket head without a wrench or ratchet
We replace them with a long bolt to match the size of the head, inserted from the working side, onto which we put a washer on the other end and tighten the nut.
Having clamped the free end of the bolt into the drill chuck, we use the head for its intended purpose.
2. How to unscrew a recalcitrant round head hex bolt
Sometimes such a bolt cannot be unscrewed with a standard L-shaped hex key, even using its long side as a lever. If you increase the shoulder using a spanner, the bolt can be easily unscrewed.
3. How to unscrew a tightly tightened pin from a body part
We screw two nuts onto the stud and press them together with wrenches, applying force to the top nut to tighten it, and to the bottom nut to unscrew it. We unscrew the lower nut and the force is transmitted through the upper nut to the stud, and it is unscrewed from the body part.
4.How to screw a bolt into a nut through a hole in a profile rectangular pipe
This is not easy to do because it is not possible to fit the nut under the hole. Place adhesive tape on one side of the wrench jaws and place a nut on it.
Now it is not difficult to place the nut under the hole and screw in the bolt.
5. How to tighten a bolt without the appropriate wrench
The wrench successfully replaces a bolt with two washers and a nut, located above the head of the bolt that needs to be tightened. In this case, the washers should wrap around the bolt head on both sides. All that remains is to tighten the nut and rotate the bolt shaft, located horizontally, clockwise.
6. How to unscrew a nut using a large open-end wrench and a flat-head screwdriver
We press the nut against one of the jaws of the key, and insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap formed on the opposite side between the edge of the bolt and the second jaw of the key. Now turn the key together with the screwdriver counterclockwise.
7. How to increase the dynamics of a manual diamond jack
The speed of manually lifting and lowering loads with a diamond jack is not dynamic. If the end of the handle is clamped in the drill chuck, the process of raising and lowering loads will increase several times.
8. How to release a tool from a drill chuck without its key
To do this, simply place the short side of the hexagon into the recess of the chuck, insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver between the teeth and, using the hexagon as a support, turn the gear ring on the chuck to the left with a screwdriver.
