The Niva will no longer overheat. Modernization of the cooling system without additional pump
All Niv drivers are well aware of the problems with the cooling system in all series of the Niv automobile range. These cars are prone to overheating even in cool seasons. Car enthusiasts are trying to modify and eliminate the overheating defect themselves by installing an additional pump. Of course, this solves the problem, but there is a better, more reliable and efficient option.
How to easily and correctly upgrade the Niva cooling system
To prevent the engine of a Niva car, for example the VAZ-2123 “Travel,” from overheating in even the most severe heat, it is enough to replace its pump and housing with similar components from the VAZ-2101.
The fact is that the suction hole of the pump from the VAZ-2101, through which the impeller sucks in the coolant, has a diameter of 39.5 mm, while the same hole in the VAZ-2123 pump is only 33.8 mm.
But at the same time, we install a metal impeller from a VAZ-2123 pump into the pump body from the VAZ-2101, since it is larger in diameter and provides a larger volume of coolant pumping per unit of time.
We also replace the standard pulley on the crankshaft with a smaller diameter equal to 90 mm to increase the pump speed. Of course, you will also have to replace the belt with a shorter one.
But the game is worth the candle: as a result, the engine does not overheat even in the most severe heat. In this case, the electric fan never turns on when the engine is running.
