New mirror from an old frying pan
The service life of some frying pans is quite limited: some fail after just a year and a half of use. Get rid of what you received in present kitchen utensils, not everyone raises their hand. Don’t rush to throw away frying pans that you no longer use - they can be used as an original frame for a mirror. An unusual mirror will decorate the interior, and if you still have several of these frying pans, you can make a composition with them.
Preparation of materials
- An old frying pan of any size.
- A round mirror with a diameter slightly smaller than a frying pan.
- Sandpaper.
- Wire.
- Spray primer.
- Black paint in a can.
- Silicone in a gun.
- Drill.
- Angle grinder (grinder).
- Pliers.
Grinding
An old frying pan will most likely have a very uneven surface. To make it smooth, use sandpaper. Pay special attention to the places where paint will be applied. If you apply paint to an uneven surface, it will not smooth it out, as one might think, but will emphasize the roughness, which will worsen the appearance of the product.
Holes
First you need to separate the handle from the frying pan. To do this, place the frying pan on the floor and have someone step on it while you cut off the handle using a grinder. If you have a frying pan with a removable handle, you can skip this step. At the mounting location you will find two holes.
Measure the distance between these holes and make marks the same distance apart on the opposite edge of the pan.
Use a drill to make two more holes in the marked places. In this case, it is necessary to secure the pan very well. There were only four holes: two on one side and two on the opposite side.
Wire
Cut two pieces of wire (about 40 cm each).
Pass one end through the first hole and then through the next one, so that both ends are close to the outside. The middle of the wire should be inside the frying pan.
To secure the wire, twist the ends into one spiral, it will be stronger and thicker.
Do the same with the second piece of wire on the other side.
Fastening
Measure the distance from where the frying pan will be located to the wall mount where you plan to hang it. Make a loop from all four ends of the wire and secure with one of them by tying it around.
Trim off any excess wire.
Painting
Prime the pan and wire and let dry according to package directions. The primer protects the surface from external influences and makes the painting result more durable.
Then coat the pan and wire with black spray paint in two coats. Black color is the most universal, but you can choose your own if you have a good idea of how it will look in the interior. It is not necessary to paint the inside of the pan where the mirror will be attached. Let the paint dry completely.
Glue the mirror
Apply silicone to the inside of the pan and to the back of the mirror. It is better not to use liquid nails, as in some cases they can damage the amalgam of the mirrors. Silicone is moisture-resistant and will work even if you decide to hang a mirror, for example, in the bathroom.
Place the mirror in the center of the pan and press firmly.
It will take about 4 hours for the product to dry completely.
Ready!
An original mirror can be hung wherever you like, or even given as a gift to someone. Now you know what to do with old frying pans!
