Cyclone vacuum cleaner for workshop
Cyclone (dust collector) made from CD boxes and a toy traffic cone.

You can make a pretty effective dust collector yourself with a couple of CD cases, a toy traffic cone, and a few pieces of PVC pipe. This cyclone can be attached to a bucket and used with a commercial vacuum cleaner.
You can make your own vacuum cleaner from a CD box. Fully functional, compact and cheaper than a store-bought device. All you need is a couple of cylindrical CD cases, a toy traffic cone, a bucket, PVC pipe and an electric motor from an old vacuum cleaner.
One day a friend of mine asked if I could make something out of a CD box and the first thing that came to my mind was a vacuum cleaner with a dust collector. And after a few months the result of my work appeared.

Let's start with a box of 50 CDs. Cut a hole in the bottom (black) part of the box so that it is suitable for attaching a PVC pipe.
In the CD, cut a hole in the center along the diameter of the PVC pipe, and cut it from side to hole.
We put the disk on the pipe, stretching it so that a screw is formed, and fix everything with hot glue.
We cut an oval hole in the side of the CD box lid (transparent part) so that a pipe can be inserted into it.
Cut the bottom of the toy traffic cone so that the diameter of the bottom matches the diameter of the CD box lid.
Cut off the top part of the transparent lid.






Insert the PVC pipe into the hole in the side of the CD case and apply hot glue to secure it.
We insert the pipe with the screw from the CD into the center of the box and fix the pipe with glue, as well as the outer edges of the disc with the inner edges of the box lid.
Glue the cut part of the cone to the cut top part of the CD box.
We cut the upper part of the traffic cone so that the cut diameter coincides with the diameter of the PVC pipe.
Cut off the top of the lid of the box for 100 discs and make a hole in the bottom.
We glue the box of 100 disks with the already assembled part to make the structure more stable.











We insert the electric motor along with the switch and wires into the cylinder of the box for 100 CDs.
We cut holes in the top and bottom of the box for PVC pipes and fix the pipes in them with glue.
We cut holes in the bucket lid to install the cyclone element and vacuum cleaner.
Using a fitting, we connect the pipe from the suction side of the vacuum cleaner module to the upper part of the cyclone module.
We take the air outlet pipe from the vacuum cleaner module out of the bucket.
We make a wheel base for the dust collector and connect the dust suction hose.










From any tree we assemble a platform corresponding to the size of the bucket. At the bottom of the platform we drill holes in the corners for mounting the wheels. We connect the dust suction hose to the suction pipe of the cyclone module. We place a garbage bag in a bucket and test the dust collector for operation and dust leaks.

Materials for the future vacuum cleaner

- 1 plastic traffic cone.
- 1 m PVC pipe with a diameter of 7 cm.
- Fitting for PVC pipes.
- One plastic bucket with a lid (not necessarily round).
To make a homemade vacuum cleaner you will need:
- Electric motor of any vacuum cleaner.
- 2 rectangular bends for 7 cm pipes.
- 1 cylindrical box with lid for 100 CDs.
- 4 boards 8 x 35 cm.
- 4 wheels from the chair.
- 1 switch.
- 1 electrical wire.
