Making a clamp from a stabilizer bar

To make neat and durable wire clamps, you need a clamp. This tool will allow you to securely tighten the hose on tubes and fittings, tie poles, pull mesh onto poles, etc. You can make a clamp based on a stabilizer bar from a car.

Materials:

  • strip or sheet steel 3 mm;
  • any rolled metal with a thickness of 15-20 mm;
  • Front stabilizer;
  • wooden slats.

Clamp manufacturing process

To assemble the clamp, you need to prepare a steel strip 30x250 mm, a piece of stabilizer strut 100-150 mm and 2 steel plates 15-20 mm thick, measuring 25x30 mm.

In the pre-polished rack, you need to make a longitudinal cut, not bringing it to the ring 10-20 mm. It is performed with a grinder with an installed cutting disc with a cross-section of 2.5 mm, which will allow you to later thread fairly thick wire into it.

The prepared strip at one end must be cut into a triangle. The resulting sharp tip is cut off and a notch is made on it to prevent the wire from slipping.

Next you need to make a thickening on the strip closer to the cut edge. To do this, overlays are welded on the sides.You can apply thick layers of weld and then sand them down to the bevel to make the part as neat as possible.

The workpiece is drilled through the center of the welded thickening. The stabilizer strut should fit into the resulting hole. It is important that it can rotate in it, so the hole is made 0.5-1 mm wider.

The part of the strip remaining behind the thickening needs to be made into a handle. To do this, 2 overlays are cut out of a thin strip and installed on rivets. The handle can also be made of textolite, plastic or other moisture-resistant material.

To use a clamp to tighten the hose, you must first prepare a wire clamp. For a double clamp, it is screwed onto the hose so as to obtain 2 rings located almost close to each other. Then the wire is folded in half between the rings. If you need a regular clamp, then a loop is made of wire.

Next, regardless of which clamp is installed, you need to separate the edges of the wire and insert the nose of the clamp between them onto the loop. Then the ends are inserted into the slot of the rack.

By rotating the stand, you need to tighten the clamp, and then turn the clamp away from the thrust loop. As a result of bending, the clamp will no longer loosen.

After this, you can bite off the excess wire and tuck the short edges so that they do not stick out.
