How to make an automatic watering system from an ordinary bottle
The drip irrigation system allows rational use of water and maintains constant soil moisture near the root system of plants. Due to this they grow better. But the main value of such a system is that the plants can be left unattended for several days without fear that they will dry out. If you want to try using a drip system, you can make it yourself from PET bottles.
A plastic bottle will be used as a container to power the system. The larger its volume, the less often it will have to be refilled. You can use a regular bottle of a couple of liters or a bottle and even a 20 liter beer keg.
2 holes are burned on the side of the bottle.
One is closer to the neck, the second to the bottom. 2 pieces of rope are inserted into the holes. Their protruding edges should hang below the bottle laid on its side. It is necessary that from the inside the ropes lie along the bottom with a margin. Approximately, a 1.5-2 liter bottle will require 25 cm pieces of rope.
A hole for refueling is cut crosswise between the ropes. In the future, a funnel or hose will be inserted into it to fill the water.
Next, you need to fill the bottle with water, completely wet the ropes, and place it near the plant.
The ropes are extended so that their edges hang slightly below the bottle. In this case, water will begin to flow down them in rare drops. The frequency of drops depends on the material and diameter of the ropes. If watering turns out to be too slow, you can insert additional ropes into the bottle.
What you will need:
- plastic bottle;
- rope.
